Kat had a patient that was actively dying of bladder cancer. Her patient's last wish was to marry his longtime girlfriend before he died. With only hours left to live, Kat called the courthouse to make arrangements for the patient and girlfriend to get married. She got the staff of MICU to come together to get a cake ordered and called a local supermarket and the supermarket ended up donating the cake and flowers for the ceremony.
The patient was able to marry his girlfriend in his ICU room. The patient died within hours after the wedding. Kat went far beyond what is necessary to take care of this patient, which exemplifies the highest duty and service of what UMC stands for. She helped this man die with dignity and comfort.
Note: This is Kat's second DAISY Award!
