I was scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks due to thrombocytopenia. Essentially, the goal was to have everything planned so we wouldn't be in a rush to do my platelet transfusions. I arrived at 4:00 PM. Once I got settled, the nurses went through a shift change and Kayla Gundlach became my nurse. She was such a breath of fresh air. Not only was she kind and friendly, but she made an uneasy situation bearable.
I had a minor allergic reaction to my second bag of platelets. Kayla listened to my concerns and came up with a quick resolution. She initiated the remaining 3 bags at a slower pace, so my body had time to adjust. It worked perfectly! Next, she worked with the doctors to ensure my blood count was suited for induction/epidural. She administered medication throughout the night to get the process started and checked on me an abundance of times to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed.
Kayla also joined while I was getting my epidural for moral support. While I was sad I didn't have her during the delivery process, I was so thankful to have had her during what I thought was the toughest process: the preparation. She is a wonderful nurse and person and I would highly recommend her. I can't thank her enough for such a great experience!
