I am only 25 and needed ECMO. One of the most impactful things Kayla did for me was to help coordinate special moments that brought me a sense of normalcy. She knew how much I longed for fresh air and to feel like a person again, not just someone hooked-up to a machine. Kayla worked tirelessly to make that happen. I'll never forget the time she coordinated to bring me down to the hospital's atrium. It took three people to help transport me with all of the equipment I needed, but she made it happen, because she understood how important it was for my emotional recovery. She even made sure to bring me outside whenever she could, giving me those precious moments of fresh air that I needed so badly. Kayla knew how much I craved a break from the walls of my hospital room, and she advocated to make those moments possible for me. Her care was the difference in life and death for me, I truly believe I wouldn't be here today without her.
