I can see that nursing is an excellent fit for Kayla. I believe she also has strong potential to be a leader that holds high standards for others, yet would guide them in achieving those with grace and understanding.
Kayla has been an amazing nursing student, exceeding her goals earlier than expected while keeping in mind the values and morals of being a nurse. Kayla has been exceedingly kind to one patient in particular, helping de-matt her hair after being in the ICU for several days. This patient and I were overjoyed to have Kayla helping, even providing innovative ideas to solve her hair situation. Kayla was compassionate and able to empathize with this patient, who did not want to have her hair cut off completely. Kayla was open-minded in the care setting and willing to look past difficult behaviors from patients to still give them the care they needed. She was always willing to jump to a bed alarm and help a patient to the bathroom even if they were not in her assigned group. She also looked toward the safety of the patients during her time precepting with me, asking questions about the way the pharmacy provides certain medications and being able to hesitate and question something that could be wrong prior to reaching the patient to ensure their safety. Kayla has an overwhelmingly positive attitude and was gladly welcomed by 10S/10N during her preceptorship.
Kayla has been quite impressive in her senior practicum. She is driven to take on the most she can and do her best for her patients. Typically, in practicum, the students start with focusing on one patient and work up to caring for 4-5 people, but Kayla wanted to take the maximum number right from the start and really challenge herself. Her preceptor felt that Kayla's drive and determination as well as her skills (and experience as a CNA and Nurse Technician) gave her the capability to successfully manage a bigger group of patients and do it while conveying care and compassion. Kayla has always maintained a high level of work, both academically and clinically. She mindfully strives to do her best in how she represents herself as a student, a caregiver, and a person of faith, and in how her care affects her patients' lives and she finds joy in providing that care. I can see that nursing is an excellent fit for Kayla. I believe she also has strong potential to be a leader that holds high standards for others, yet would guide them in achieving those with grace and understanding.
