Kellie is one of the most active and involved RN3s on our busy critical care unit. Kellie exemplifies the critical care nurse educator role and is always my preferred “go to” for questions. As the coordinator of our Critical Care Preceptor Program, Kellie is invaluable to the demanding needs of all our incoming nurses to the unit whether they are brand new to nursing or seasoned professionals. Kellie’s work ethic never wavers. She is always here doing or working on something and always planning ahead for future projects. What makes Kellie so wonderful is that your relationship with her does not end after orientation is over; instead, it broadens. She is understanding, compassionate, and an excellent role model of a critical care RN. Beyond an educator, Kellie also fills the charge RN role position when needed. She often jumps right in when needed during a crisis/code situation and assists the daily staff trying to juggle the fine balancing act of keep the unit and nurses properly breaked and staffed while wearing the charge hat. She is crucial in helping organizing the flow of various interdisciplinary rounds and meetings and helps coordinate all the coverages that are needed so staff can participate in patient care goal meetings. Her calm and sincerely caring demeanor resonate and make her very approachable for patients, families and staff members. Kellie goes above and beyond to make work enjoyable. This Christmas season, Kellie brought her family with her at 4:00 in the morning to cook and serve Christmas breakfast for the night shift and day shift even though it was her day off. It’s people like Kellie who make UWMC the best place to work.
