Kelly was Mom's nurse for the last 2 nights of life. Her experience was a huge comfort to us. As she started her shift, I noticed she was telling mom stories about her day as my mom lay there non-responsive. Kelly was so upbeat and assured me I could go home for some rest and she would call me if I needed to come back. Kelly knew how much I had hoped to be there when Mom passed. She also gave me reading material explaining the signs of death. The next morning about 6:30 am, she called as I was driving to the hospital to update me on Mom's condition and her night in case she missed me when her shift was over.
The next night I went home again for rest when I walked in at 6:30 am she was rubbing Mom's arms and talking softly to her. She told me her death was near. I made 2 calls so a sister and brother could say goodbye over the phone and I read a prayer. Kelly stayed with us as Mom took her last breath at 7 am, the end of her shift. She said she would stay until the doctor and spiritual director came. She is a family-oriented and care superstar!
