Recently, I was seen in the emergency room at Mercy Jefferson. I had tried to break up a cat fight and was bitten by my own cat. Although I had been to Mercy Urgent Care and received medication that was proper for a cat bite, the infection refused to go away. Hence, my visit to the emergency room. In the meantime, Animal Control had contacted me by phone in the ER and wanted to put my cat in quarantine. Although I begged and pleaded, the man refused to allow us to do a home quarantine. His response was that she would be taken to the dog pound for ten days. At this point, I had a complete breakdown knowing that if my cat was put in a dog pound that she would have mental anguish that she would never recover from. It was at that point I had the privilege to meet FNP, Kelly Beaver. She heard the hysterical conversation that was happening and rushed in to see how she could help and thank goodness she did. After the situation about our cat was explained to her and that she realized that our cat was on a leash, in our yard, with all her current vaccines and that a neighbor's cat was the catalyst in the situation her compassion for me and our cat was overwhelming. After speaking with me and helping me calm down, Nurse Beaver agreed to call Animal Control and explain what had occurred which I had not been able to do as I was too upset. This conversation that she had with Animal Control allowed our cat to stay in our home instead of being in a dog pound for ten days. I can't express the relief that I felt knowing that my baby would be safe at home with my husband.
Once this stress was lifted, I was allowed to concentrate on getting better thanks to Ms. Beaver. This compassionate woman understood in order for the body to heal the mind had to be at peace. It was through her intervention that my body could begin to heal. We shared a hug and I will never forget the compassion that she shared with me on that day. Her name will remain in my heart for the rest of my life, she went above and beyond.
