It is with great pleasure that I recognize Kelly Delowery for being such an amazing and compassionate nurse. A critically-ill patient was admitted to 4 East SICU earlier this year and spent about 6 months on our unit. Kelly cared for this patient a great deal during her time with us. After a grueling battle, it was decided by the patient and her family that she wished to be made a DNR on comfort care. After caring for this patient on many occasions, Kelly jumped at the opportunity to make this woman's last few hours as perfect as they could be.
When Kelly came on shift, she asked the patient if she wanted or needed anything and the patient's response was "George Clooney and pepperoni pizza." It was at this time that Kelly knew she had to make this patient's last wishes come true. Kelly took it upon herself to print out a plethora of pictures of George Clooney and plastered them all over the patient's room. Next thing you know, a delivery man was at the door of our unit, dropping off a pepperoni pizza. Kelly had ordered and paid for this pizza to fulfill this woman's dying wish. The look on the patient's face when she saw the George Clooney pictures and took a big bite of pepperoni pizza was priceless.
It is an honor to work alongside a nurse as wonderful and caring as Kelly. I am thankful to not only have her as a co-worker but as a friend!
