Before Thanksgiving, my mother was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida on an emergency basis. She was placed in the SICU due to respiratory failure, CHF, pneumonia and other complications. While she was on that unit, she was provided with excellent medical and nursing care. However, one nurses provided exceptional care to my mother and showed compassion and understanding to me and my sisters. Her name is Kelly Finnegan. Kelly demonstrated a clear understanding of all the procedures being administered and was expert in managing the team of professionals that were caring for our mother. She provided us with updated information and answered any, and all, of our questions during this difficult time. But, more importantly, Kelly was there for us. It was comforting to see her, knowing that she truly understood the circumstances and that she would be standing beside us while difficult decisions had to be made. Unfortunately, our mother passed away the day after Thanksgiving. Whenever I think about time in your hospital, I think about Kelly and the kind care that she provided. I can think of no better tribute to honor by mother than to nominate her for the Daisy Award. She would have been proud to know Kelly.
