Kelly Hamrick has continuously shown that she has the required knowledge, skills, and compassion to understand the complexity of both the medical and emotional needs of the patients and their families. Daily she displays these characteristics in immeasurable ways to the patients. An example, she has become the caregiver for this patient. This patient has a complex medical treatment for Heart Failure condition, after several trials and errors and medication changes, the patient was recently started on a medication costing $400 per month. Kelly spent hours seeking financial assistance for the patient to receive this medication, assisted the patient to fill out the form, and was able to achieve a month's supply of medication for the patient while her application is being reviewed. Her actions prevented the patient from being readmitted to the hospital.

Another example; she visited a tearful patient, who had given her information to someone on the phone thinking that she was speaking to her insurance company. This was a “scammer”. Kelly’s quick thinking led her to call the insurance company, bank, and MD office and averted financial loss to the patient and family. Her reaction to the patient’s immediate need came before even thinking that is not what my visit is about, or this should be done by the family.

Another of the many examples is the ability to de-escalate situations even with the challenged patients to encourage adherence to the treatment regimens. On an occasion Kelly came to the office to pick up supplies for a patient visit, there was a student nurse who was not on the schedule. Kelly accepted this student without hesitation. She has been a preceptor and the staff voices appreciation for her patience and empathy when imparting education and knowledge. Additionally, Kelly has personal challenges which she has not allowed to deter her from her performance.
