I didn't realize that I was "showing" the level of concern I was feeling, but Kelsey noticed. She walked over to me, put her hand on my shoulder, and said, "It's going to be ok. We've got him."
My husband was taken to ORMC recently. Given some previous medical issues he had had, the uncertainty of what was happening was beyond anything I could comprehend. My husband was brought in by ambulance, I arrived via car a short time later, so his care was well under way when I arrived- with Kelsey at the helm. Her level of attention was extraordinary. She did not need a reason to be empathetic or compassionate- she simply was those things. At one point, my husband's condition had worsened. I didn't realize that I was "showing" the level of concern I was feeling, but Kelsey noticed. She walked over to me, put her hand on my shoulder, and said, "It's going to be ok. We've got him." She was also training a nurse that day- and didn't miss a beat in that process either. Though I am not clinical, I could see and feel a level of trust that is indescribable in Kelsey. Amidst the utter chaos going on around her, not once was it "felt." It was as if my husband were the only person in the world that day, and absolutely nothing would have gone wrong if she had anything to do with it. My husband, thankfully, is doing well now post discharge. But without any recollection of most of the timeline in the ER, he remembers feeling cared about, like nothing was too big or too small, and he attributes all of this to Kelsey. I noted the number of patients she was tending to that day in the ER, and there are no words to express my gratitude for her being with us that day. We are and will be forever thankful for the compassion and genuine level of care Kelsey demonstrates.
