She would leave Mom messages on the whiteboard such as “E, you are a lovely, stylish lady!” and bought her Rice Krispy treats because Mom had said those were her favorite snack.
We met Kelsey when my mom was transported via ambulance to MMC’s ER. Mom had fallen at her assisted living facility, and beyond that, at 93, she had lost her appetite and ability to use her beloved walker. Mom spent the better part of that first day in the ER and then was admitted to a room on R5. The lovely Kelsey swooped in to make my mom smile and to help manage her pain. Kelsey also helped us to understand the care Mom was receiving. She professionally and respectfully answered our many questions, addressed our concerns, and sought help when needed. We really appreciated that she let us know when the doctor was going to be present so we could connect with him. She kept us informed if other caretakers such as doctors, therapists, and the chaplain stopped by.
This was an incredibly challenging time for all of us as it appeared from all the tests Mom was given, she was probably going to make a transition from assisted living to hospice care. Kelsey was sensitive, respectful, and caring. We will never forget the love and care Kelsey demonstrated during the week our precious mom was at MMC. She exhibits all the qualities one would hope to find in an RN. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
