Our son was inpatient for a GI cleanout. Kenny recognized the need for a psych consult. He made sure that this occurred. I was unable to meet in full with all of the physicians and Kenny ensured that they came back again to speak with me. After a conversation with me, he realized that the discharge plan would not work for our son and called for additional consults to address the deficits in his discharge care, making sure that all of our concerns were addressed and met. If we had left the hospital with the original plan only, it would have left a great gap in his care and created more obstacles for us in getting our son the much-needed care and help he requires.
Kenny made sure our family wasn't just a set of vitals and chart notes. He took the time to really see our family and the problems we were facing. He truly used his experience, skill, and compassion to make sure that we had every question answered and a viable plan in place to help our son once we left the hospital to ensure his continued critical care. I cannot express how his above and beyond actions, without judgment, a breadth of patience, and dedication has helped ease this mother's mind and provided hope. Kenny was not just a nurse, he was a forceful advocate for our family and a stabilizing figure in a difficult time. He coordinated all of the members of the team, ensuring that each had all the relevant information, and was my voice when I had trouble finding my own.
