His compassionate approach, problem-solving initiative, and relentless advocacy exemplify the very qualities the DAISY Award was created to honor.
I am honored to nominate Kent Kinzer, Charge Nurse at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, for the DAISY Award. His unwavering dedication and extraordinary compassion recently shone through in a situation that truly embodies the essence of nursing.
Kent’s commitment to patient care was evident when he assisted a homeless patient undergoing a month-long course of IV antibiotics. In addition to their medical needs, the patient faced a distressing challenge—she had misplaced her debit card, leaving her without access to essential funds. Without hesitation, Kent took it upon himself to help her recover her essential financial resource, demonstrating not just clinical excellence but deep human kindness.
Recognizing the situation's urgency, Kent proactively coordinated with the Lawton Police Department, helping the patient file a report. He then reached out to her bank, navigating the necessary steps to secure a replacement. When bureaucratic roadblocks threatened to delay the process, Kent remained persistent, refusing to let the patient’s distress go unanswered.
Upon discovering that the replacement card had been mistakenly routed to an off-campus business office, Kent went beyond his professional duty—personally retrieving the package to ensure the patient received it before discharge. His selfless actions lifted a tremendous burden from her shoulders, turning a moment of despair into one of relief and gratitude. The patient’s joy and heartfelt appreciation were a testament to the profound impact of Kent’s intervention.
Kent’s dedication extends far beyond routine responsibilities. His compassionate approach, problem-solving initiative, and relentless advocacy exemplify the very qualities the DAISY Award was created to honor. I wholeheartedly endorse Kent Kinzer for this recognition, as his actions reflect the highest standards of nursing excellence and embody the spirit of patient-centered care at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
