Her disposition was both professional and empathetic to what we were going through. I felt very supported and comfortable with her immediately.
I recently underwent surgery at the Women's and Babies Hospital following the loss of my pregnancy. I was very nervous leading up to my surgery as I've never had any sort of invasive procedure before. The pre-op nurses were amazing to help me feel well-prepared for what was to come. However, the OR nurse, Kerri, that was assisting that day helped shape my entire experience in the short 10 minutes I was with her. She came to the room I was waiting in and greeted me with a friendly disposition that helped put me at ease, as I was really starting to feel nervous at that point. She introduced herself professionally and then reiterated the procedure, the surgeon who was doing it, and ensured myself and my partner understood before we even left the room. That really demonstrated her commitment to me and my partner and to make sure that we understood what was to come and felt comfortable with the next step. Her disposition was both professional and empathetic to what we were going through. I felt very supported and comfortable with her immediately.

She took me back to the OR and asked me several questions about myself and my family which helped me feel more at ease as we were heading to the room. Took my mind off the surgery and onto what I love most; my family. As we entered the room, she introduced some members of the team and others followed and introduced themselves as well. She always made sure I knew what was going to happen next, being present with me in those moments.

The most important part of this experience for me, was right before I went to sleep. I was feeling very nervous and emotional. I told her that and I started to cry. She gently wiped my tears away and held my hand while the nurse anesthetist was getting me ready. She told me that she was there with me and she held my hand tight. That was the last thing I remember before waking up after my surgery. That was so important for me, she helped me feel calm before the surgery and that is what I remembered when I was awake again. With all the emotions and fear of the unknown I was dealing with, it was so special to me to have someone who gave me empathy, and comfort and made me feel safe. I appreciate every nurse that's helped take care of me but will always remember Kerri. She gave me so much support and compassion in the short time she was taking care of me.
