Kevin Dalrymple is never without a smile, witty word of encouragement or offer to pitch in and help. He manages the gateway to the hospital and works diligently to turn the community perception, patient perception and internal customer perception to the positive. He has become the Duke of Action Plans, with three or more occurring simultaneously in his area, even today. He has been able to make a difference in the front end metrics of our organization and has been a tireless champion of the throughput initiative making the care of our patients safer, better and improving the experience for those who come through the ER. Kevin is a servant leader.
Recently, I was made aware of a patient who left AMA and showed up in the doctor's office of the 1700 building. The Supervisor notified Kevin of the situation and he immediately went over to perform service recovery. While speaking with the patient, he assured the patient that he would personally help to take care of him. He was able to wheel the patient back over to the ED and ensured that his visit went smoothly from then on. Without looking for praise or compliment, the quiet servant leader quality of Kevin shines through his actions.
He is the first with an encouraging word to other Nurse Leaders, on the hardest day to still extend that compassion and kindness to others. When another of the Nurse Leaders needs a hand, he will often step up to the plate and extend his. He is quick to offer humor and although he is like the little brother to most Nurse Leaders, he exemplifies those characteristics that we all should strive to exhibit. His easy-going manner helps to balance our team and we are a stronger Nurse Leader team because of him. It could be said that his, "walk talks and his talk talks but his walk talks louder than his talk talks."
Kevin Dalrymple exemplifies the kindness, compassion and the need of recognizing service of those nurses, who are deserving of the recognition of the DAISY Nurse Leader award.
