On August 8th, the patient marked her one year anniversary as a patient on 7N. She wanted to celebrate the occasion and asked Kim to help her. They planned a potluck for the staff for that date. Kim arranged for staff to bring food in. She picked up food that the patient had ordered and came on her day off to set the meal up. She also came in early and dyed her hair for her. She had been feeling bad about how gray and "lifeless" her hair had become since she had been hospitalized so Kim wanted to make her feel better.
On August 10th, I was the nurse caring for her. She expressed how much she appreciated all that Kim had done to make her feel special on her anniversary and for all the special care Kim had given her over the last year. Sadly, as that day went on, her condition deteriorated and on August 14th, she lost her long and painful battle.
I am nominating Kim for the DAISY Award in this patient's name-she wished for Kim to get this award and so do I.
