In 2019, I was fortunate enough to have my daughter at LUH. It was a wonderful experience, and the nurses were all incredible! As a nurse myself, I have high standards of what "good nursing" looks like. I wanted to write to you to let you know about one nurse in particular who has been phenomenal. Kim Fuhrman has been our lactation consultant since A, my daughter was born a year ago. As a first time mom, I had a million questions about breastfeeding and struggled with low supply and feelings of worry going back to work and maintaining my supply and giving my daughter adequate nutrition. Throughout my maternity leave, I went to the lactation clinic every week. Once I missed a week and Kim checked in to make sure we were still doing okay. As I was preparing to return to work, Kim made me feel at ease and offered to answer any questions or concerns I had. I felt like she genuinely cared and really wanted to help. Of course, I had moments of concern when questions came up, and I reached out to Kim to ask. She never once made me feel bad for reaching out or sending updates and pictures. Kim was available to help when I got sick with the flu and my supply tanked. She was there for us when I had questions about transitioning A to food and later when we talked about introducing cow's milk. She even remembered A's first birthday and reached out to wish her a happy birthday! Kim is not just a great nurse, she is an incredible person, whose kind and genuine compassion extends way beyond what a patient expects of a nurse. Please extend my serious gratitude to her. I am happy to say A is doing great, and I am still breastfeeding after a year. There's no way I would have made it this far without Kim there to answer all my crazy questions and giving me her unyielding support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much, Kim!
