My husband was recently hospitalized at CHRHC. His illness is complicated and his condition can and will worsen quickly. I had left the facility to attend a previous engagement. My son and sister-in-law were at the bedside. I received the call from Kim, the Director of Nursing, around 7 pm. My husband's condition was going downhill fast. I was very thankful and impressed that a D.O.N. was still working at 7 pm while a patient was going through a crisis, recognizing that staff needed guidance and support while advocating for the patient. The MD was called by the nurse, Chris a great nurse, taking care of my husband. Kim actually spoke 1:1 face to face with the MD to get what was needed for my husband. Kim had actually witnessed the crisis before and knew that action was needed ASAP! The outcome was positive because of excellent nursing interaction (Kim & Chris) to ensure the patient received what was needed! Dr. T acted quickly and was very receptive and approachable to achieve the best patient outcome. This is what extraordinary nursing is; A D.O.N. who can and will step up and do bedside nursing and staff support when needed. Great job Kim!
