Kina Atencio is a very strong leader, in every sense of the word. She has worn many hats in her 10 years with our organization. Currently, she is a Charge Nurse in the ER, and no matter what situation is presented to her, she maintains a very calm, collected, professional demeanor always. She makes the patients and their families a priority, but at the same time, she makes sure her staff has what they need to perform their duties. She has established a professional and trusting rapport with our customers including patients, Fire/Rescue, providers, ancillary departments, as well as the ED staff.
Kina is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to support and mentor all staff. She is looked up to by her peers as well as leadership. If Kina does not know the answer to a question, she will find it and get back to the staff in a timely manner. She is honest and trustworthy. Kina has demonstrated that she can handle anything that is presented to her and especially in a crisis, she makes sure that everyone is on the same page as well as everyone is safe. She does not demonstrate the turmoil she may be feeling inside up front because she knows that this will cause a trickledown-effect with staff. She puts up a positive "let's get through this" attitude. Everyone looks to the leader to get them through the crisis, Kina is the type of leader that can do this.
Kina has no problem getting into the thick of things, helping, directing, and encouraging the staff along the way. She listens to her staff and directs them accordingly. She goes above and beyond to keep the morale up and reaches out to her peers when they need that extra pat on the back or morale booster.
