Kougar radiates optimism and has brought a light to the Nursing profession during a dark and uncertain time in healthcare.
Kougar was instrumental, within the ability of the service line and our facility, in providing safe patient care throughout the course of 2020 and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. She onboarded 115 core and ECL staff nurses, and an additional 80 crisis travel nurses. She worked diligently to ensure over 200 core staff members, and 100 travelers, were educated and competent in the proper use of PPE and gave continuous guidance as the recommendations changed early in the pandemic. Over 300 healthcare workers were provided the direction and practices to ensure everyone was kept safe. During the first surge, Kougar did simulated lab IV draws with each PCU nurse, gave individual education on proper COVID swabbing techniques, and continuously sought out updated practices and guidance to keep everyone safe. She also educated all staff members on the new Zoll defibrillators during the middle of the pandemic. Kougar has provided support to both our day and night shift teams, has continued regular check-ins with new staff, and played a crucial role in PCU retaining our new grad nurses in 2020. She developed the “Wrap Up with the ROSS” for new staff members at the end of their orientation to provide support during an unprecedented time in Nursing. Kougar radiates optimism and has brought a light to the Nursing profession during a dark and uncertain time in healthcare. She is the prime example of stellar Nursing Leadership and a Healthcare Hero.
