She has consistently worked to make the Ethics Committee an effective resource for clinicians, as well as patients and their support systems.
Krisa has been actively involved in participating in and eventually leading the Ethics Committee in her organization. This is in addition to her primary responsibilities as an employee health nurse. She has consistently worked to make the Ethics Committee an effective resource for clinicians, as well as patients and their support systems. She promotes the incorporation of clinical ethical principles, as defined by healthcare ethical standards as defined by the ANA and other healthcare professional ethics standards.

An example of her commitment to supporting clinicians (e.g., nurses, providers) and patients is the development of a process to represent patients who are unable to speak for themselves and do not have someone to speak for them. These patients frequently come from an unhoused setting and do not have identifiable family or acquaintances who are able to speak to what the patient's wishes would be regarding various levels of medical interventions. These circumstances can cause a significant amount of moral distress for those involved. Many requests for ethical consultations are as a result of these situations.
This group has been utilized eight times since 2019. It has proven to be an effective adjunct to the care team and helps mitigate the moral distress encountered in these situations. More than one of these cases involved end-of-life decisions. The UPAG input was helpful in helping the care team decide to withdraw life support and prevent these patients from receiving ongoing, non-beneficial care.

Krisa has occasionally served on a UPAG. She has also reviewed its effectiveness with those involved to see if the model needed modification.
