She is someone you want to hug when you see her because she carries herself so well yet remains so open to the environment around her. The compassion that she has for these children in the NICU just oozes from her.
Krista helps take care of our son T at the Bronson NICU. Krista goes above and beyond every time we see her. Bronson has some excellent nurses but Krista is someone special.

She is calm, loving and knowledgeable. She takes time to educate us as parents of a preemie and as new parents. She always takes the time to explain why his care plan is how it is, why they do a certain thing versus another, etc.  We have seen her sign and read to our son, she is on top of his milestones, she remembers everything he likes, his tells, how we like things, etc., she remembered that we said he loved Taylor Swift lullabies and when we came back for our next visit she had it playing for him.

She is always aware of age-appropriate stimuli and how this could help our son in the long run. For example, getting the mamaroo rocker in his room, making sure there is music playing in his room, and talking to us about things we could expect to see in his room coming up. She takes her time, shows love and care to T, and genuinely cares about him and about us as his parents.

She has helped us stay on track with his care plans, his go-home check list, she has educated us on SIDS, crib expectations for when he comes home, the importance of circulating room air, and so much more. She is a kind and caring soul. She is someone you want to hug when you see her because she carries herself so well yet remains so open to the environment around her. The compassion that she has for these children in the NICU just oozes from her.

She pays attention to small details, big changes, things we may not notice, things we should know, may need to know, etc…just in case we may need the information. There have been times when we were worried or frustrated and her hand on our shoulder gave us the comfort we needed to sometimes leave our child for a few days.

I cannot begin to explain how lucky Bronson is to have Krista. We have met a lot of nurses in our journey, including some at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. We have met nurses at Bronson that we consider dear in our lives. Krista is and always will be one of those nurses. Krista will be one of those nurses we tell our son about someday who helped shape his life.

There is no one more deserving of this award. It is so rare to find someone who genuinely gives their heart and soul every time they walk into the door, no matter what is on the other side, for the sake of these NICU children and parents.
