Kristen is an amazing nurse. She has been my coworker, my preceptor, my friend, and my mentor. She has been the nurse that I have idolized and she has inspired me to be the best nurse I can be throughout my career here at Beaumont- Dearborn. She has made herself available to be called at home on her days off if we have questions. She is not just an amazing coworker that you can rely on, but she is also a fantastic bedside nurse. Every day she comes to work with a positive attitude and takes care of each patient with the utmost respect. Every day she makes connections with her patients and treats every individual like family.
One patient was on our unit and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He revealed that he was a huge Tigers fan but had never been to a game. He said that his vision wasn't good and the tickets where he would be able to see he couldn't afford.
So Kristen talked to people from the hospital and coordinated things with our assistant manager. They surprised the patient with a Tigers shirt, peanuts, and 2 great seats for him at a game which ended up being on his birthday. The patient and his sister were so happy they were crying.
Another moment that I witnessed was Kristen receiving a phone call from a previous patient that she took care of. They called her here at the hospital and just wanted to update her and let her know about their positive health status. It was clear that she had made an impact on this patient's life for them to include her in this great news.
Kristen is exceptional!
