I don't think my father-in-law knows, even now. I attribute this to their calming influence, and I am so thankful for it, as my mother-in-law tends to panic easily.
Approximately one week ago, my father-in-law was seen in the ED with extreme shortness of breath. He had not been feeling well for about 3 months. My in-laws are older and don’t have a great deal of medical knowledge, so whenever anything happens, they rely on me to help them understand. While he was in the ED, he was diagnosed with a "massive" Saddle PE. The ED staff, particularly Dr. W, Kristi, and A, were absolutely wonderful. They took such great care of my father-in-law, and I can not express how much I appreciate them.

My father-in-law was transferred to Mission Trails, but while he was here, they did an excellent job of keeping us informed about what was going on, and their kindness and compassion were boundless. I asked them to call me after the CTA was completed, and the doctor was ready to talk to my in-laws. I knew it was pretty bad when Kristi called me to come back about 15 minutes later. Dr. W told me about the PE, and I could see how concerned they were. As a nurse, I knew this was very serious, but this crew was so calm and reassuring. It wasn't until after he was transferred and treated that my mother-in-law had a grasp on how serious it was. I don't think my father-in-law knows, even now. I attribute this to their calming influence, and I am so thankful for it, as my mother-in-law tends to panic easily. I am so grateful for everything this fabulous staff did for my family.

Working here, I sometimes lose sight of our ability to touch people's lives and the lasting impact our actions can have on others. I appreciate them more than they will ever know.
