Our daughter had a horrific accident at home. She fell into a huge glass penny jug while dancing around the house, and lacerated her thigh with about a 5 inch cut that went thru to the bone. Before we left our home, I truly thought she was going to bleed out.
As you can imagine, we were scared beyond what we can describe in words. We spent most of the evening in the Emergency Room, and then they transferred her to the Short Stay area for surgery. Krystle was her nurse from the early morning until we left late that afternoon.
Every time we asked for anything, Krystle was responsive. We never had to ask twice. She interacted with our daughter and with us in a very professional manner, and our daughter (and we) felt truly cared for.
What was amazing was that with all of her other patients we knew she had, she always responded to each and every request quickly, and she never forgot. She always had a kind word or a smile to present, and with concerns that arose, she answered questions thoughtfully and professionally.
Having this level of care and comfort truly put us at ease during a time that was very frightening for us. You cannot put a value on the comfort and care that surrounds you during a crisis in your family, and nominating Krystle Gregory, RN for The DAISY Award seems like a small thing in comparison to what not only our daughter but our entire family received.
She is an outstanding nurse, and we truly appreciate and are grateful for the care provided to our daughter and to our family. As our daughter said to Krystle aloud as we were leaving that evening, "They need to give you a raise." (Coincidently her supervisor, unbeknownst to us, was standing there also.) But if a child who is ten can voice that to her caregivers, you know they must be doing something right!
