Kyonna’s skills trumped her fear. She jumped into action.
At approximately 3:20 am, a mother was called up in active labor by the Emergency Department. When the elevator reached the 4th floor, no one came off. The triage nurse, Kyonna, proceeded to the elevator and noticed that the mother could not exit the elevator because the baby was coming out breached. This turned into a very serious situation for both mother and baby. Kyonna called out to me to call for help, and as I did so, although the situation was scary because the baby was coming out breached, Kyonna’s skills trumped her fear. She jumped into action. The situation was not easy due to the patient being Spanish-speaking and there being a language barrier, but Kyonna was able to keep the situation controlled until her help arrived. Although the situation was critical, the baby was delivered safely. The environment and delivery were out of normal circumstances, but Kyonna allowed her skills to show boldly and proudly.
