On October 4th LDRP had a patient come in for a scheduled repeat cesarean section at 1306. When the night shift nurse, Bela, came on, the patient appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness. At this time Bela called rapid response. The assistant nurse manager, Karen, and staff nurses, Deanna and Gabby came to the beside to assist. Deanna began to scribe the events as they occurred while Karen and Gabby assisted Bela with caring for the patient.
Respiratory Therapist, Clinton, was the first to respond. While explaining to the patient that he was there to do an EKG, the patient began to have a seizure and turned blue. Clinton assisted the nursing staff with getting suction, oxygen, etc.
A code blue was called at this time, and Karen went to obtain the crash cart from the LDRP OR hallway. The off-going ANM, Sam Maloney, stayed after her shift ended to assist where needed. The code team and rapid response team arrived as well as Dr. Morgan with anesthesia, the OB provider, Dr. Manek, and the Assistant Director of Nursing, Paul DiBlasi.
Britt Donovan, PA with the neonatology team was also helping to get needed supplies (ie: extra IV pumps). The nurse manager, Samantha Roberts, and director, Jenny Malig also arrived and helped where they could. The patient was stabilized and transferred to CCU.
