Laddie allowed the patient to voice his same repeated questions and concerns and Laddie calmly and with a reassuring voice answered the patient each time.
Laddie is a very special nurse. He has been serving this hospital for many years. He is a veteran nurse with experience in different fields of nursing. This makes him a great resource for his work family. Laddie is always friendly, smiling and the first to greet anyone he passes in the halls. He is a longtime resident of Longview and has dedicated his nursing career to caring for his community. He is an active member of his church and that is evident in his work. He is the persona of our Mission. Laddie is extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by his actions on every shift, every patient.
Laddie was caring for an elderly gentleman with advanced dementia. This patient was pressing his call bell frequently and when not pressing the call bell he would call out for "nurse". This gentleman was forgetful and had anxiety when alone in the room. As nurses, we often have patients with dementia and during the pandemic when visitors are prohibited or limited it creates higher levels of stress and anxiety.
Laddie cared for this gentleman for his 12-hour shift. He was attentive and caring. He answered the call bell and his calls for "nurse" every time. He showed limitless compassion and empathy for this gentleman. Laddie allowed the patient to voice his same repeated questions and concerns and Laddie calmly and with a reassuring voice answered the patient each time. These actions on his part showed the core values of CHRISTUS Health. Dignity for the patient, integrity, and compassion with each encounter with this patient, and excellence in his nursing care. This is just one example of why Laddie is a real DAISY Nurse.
