I have never been in a better or more caring hands. We laughed together, expressed our thoughts on things, and discussed personal things, all, I'm sure, meant to put me at ease.
Laura was amazing, from the moment I got to PHI at 6:30am to the moment I left at 6pm! She listened to me closely about my issues with diabetes, frequent urination, numb toes with prolonged bed rest, etc. She handled my ticklishness like a pro. She seemed to know instinctively what I needed and when, sometimes before even I knew. She kept me calm, comfortable, reassured, she kept my spirits up, and was constantly there, tireless to make sure I was ok. I have never been in a better or more caring hands. We laughed together, expressed our thoughts on things, and discussed personal things, all, I'm sure, meant to put me at ease. She left my catheter in a bit longer after surgery so my frequent urination wouldn't be so bad. She got tea and honey to soothe my sore throat, she was aware of my modesty and seemed to know I was shy. She kept the water, tea, and warm blankets coming! And did she take a break? Not that I could see! She said she took a lunch but she was only gone for about 15 minutes while another nurse checked on me. I have had great nurses in the past at PHI (this was my third ablation) and their entire staff is amazing. But Laura stood out as a shining example of amazingness!
My mom was an RN her entire life, so I know that care and compassion can be tiring. But Laura seemed to be so focused on her patients (yes, she had more than just me, but I felt like the only one!) that I was so amazed at her skill set and how natural it all seemed for her. She made my heart surgery feel like a day at a spa instead!
