When I felt I couldn't take one more minute, Laura took the time to talk with me.
I came to St. Mary’s with pain in my stomach from an earlier gallbladder removed. I went through the emergency department so I did not get a room until late. My daughter was only able to visit a little bit due to her work travel. I have rods from the T8 pelvis in my back, and movement is difficult, especially in bed. I was having anxiety and felt so alone. My roommate was noisy and rude to the nurses. When I felt I couldn't take one more minute, Laura took the time to talk with me. We talked as she worked, but her calm demeanor calmed me as well. Those few minutes of her actually “listening” allowed me to feel “ok”. When she came into the room I would be instantly relieved. She was a pleasure to see! I want her to know that her care both to my physical and mental needs was appreciated. She is obviously someone who cares about her patients.
