Some people are just born to be nurses; Lauren Costabile-Lopez is one of those people. I was recently admitted as a patient, which is a completely different experience for me. Being on the other side and somewhat helpless in my own recovery is uncomfortable for me, to say the least. Lauren walked me through everything and went above and beyond to make sure I was OK, comforted me, and made sure my patient care was exceptional. She treated me with respect and brought me whatever I needed. What I’ve been going through has been scary, but Lauren made sure to make it all seem OK, which brought a sense of calm to the whole experience. She sacrificed her personal time, sleep, and time with her family on a holiday weekend to be my advocate, ensuring I had the best care possible. When the time came for Lauren to leave the hospital, she kept me in her thoughts and prayers. On her day off, she even went as far as bringing my husband and me some home-cooked meals from her family’s Easter dinner, something we sorely missed. We were floored and so appreciative of the selflessness of her actions.
