Lauren Gerry is a patient favorite. Aside from her extraordinary clinical skill and being an encouragement to new and developing nurses, Lauren is a model for providing compassionate care. Lauren has a friendly, calming, and supportive therapeutic communication style that puts her patients' minds at ease. She can get patients to engage in their healing by instilling thorough patient education, being an active listener, skilled conversationalist and always going the extra mile.
One time I saw Lauren bringing in some hard to find root beer flavored popsicles for a patient with terrible chemotherapy-induced nausea and mucositis. The popsicles provided some relief, but the gesture itself went a long way because the patient and family really felt like they were being well cared for.
