Lauren gained my wife's confidence right away and believed that she was in a good hand.
My wife is on chemotherapy and radiation treatments at Mayo Clinic. We had to uproot our entire family for the treatments (two teenage boys and a six-year-old girl with Autism), as we are from Las Vegas. Being part of the medical field as well, my wife and I are very familiar with what the job entails.
Lauren was precepting a new colleague, who, on her last day of orientation, during one of my wife's chemotherapy treatments. One can tell right away that Lauren was very diligent with her job. She was very proficient with the ultrasound machine while inserting the IV. Lauren took the time to explain the treatment process and what to expect while keenly observing and teaching her colleague. Lauren was pretty good at being concise and methodological without being perceived as patronizing by her colleague, who appeared to be an experienced nurse from another unit. Lauren maintained her patience and cool while she had to explain basic nursing tasks to her preceptee (mitigation of bubbles in the IV line, secondary line to be attached to the port nearest to the patient, and succession of medications from beginning to end, and exemplified professionalism to her coworker, her patient, and family members.
Lauren gained my wife's confidence right away and believed that she was in a good hand. My wife didn't have to worry about the reoccurrence of side effects that she experienced during her second chemotherapy treatment. I think Lauren quickly developed a rapport with my wife due to her strong interpersonal abilities. Immediately, Lauren and my wife were chatting about activities that are kid-friendly in the Phoenix area.
