I’d like to thank Lauren; she was my night nurse, and she took such good care of me. I just had a double mastectomy and was scared of so many things…how I felt, what I looked like, what to do with the drains, how I could even move in the hospital bed. Lauren was the night nurse manager on the floor but was also my nurse, so she had many to take care of. Even with this, she made me feel like I was the only one and the most important patient on the floor. She had my complicated med schedule perfectly timed, helped me walk to the bathroom, explained why strange things were happening (like green pee), made sure I was resting, and told me what we could do if I had any discomfort. For her entire shift, my machines barely, if ever, went into alert mode. She talked me through the drain care every time she did it, and when changing IV bags at night, she kept lights off while working so I wouldn’t be disturbed. I asked her about herself to keep my mind off of me and she shared with me such nice things which made me happy. She always had a big smile on her face, stayed late to help others, and then came to check on me one last time. I cannot say enough about this young lady…what an incredible asset to this hospital. I am so grateful for her care.
