Lauren was gentle but to the point with her care and what was best for my grandmother as her life neared the end.
I am a nurse in another state. My grandmother has been a patient on SW4 about every two weeks for the last 3 months. This stay we knew going in that this would be her last and nothing was going how it should have. Mem, as she is known, was supposed to live out her final days at home with her family surrounding her. But Hurricane Ian had other plans. As an End of life/oncology nurse myself it was very difficult for me to be thousands of miles away and not be able to get to her to be by her side. Lauren took the time to talk with me on the phone. She listened to my concerns and my hopes for my grandmother in her last days not only as a granddaughter but an end-of-life nurse. Lauren was instrumental in advocating for my grandmother. She has 5 sons, and they weren’t always on the same page and Mem doesn’t always advocate for herself. Lauren was gentle but to the point with her care and what was best for my grandmother as her life neared the end. Not only did Lauren take care of my grandmother she took care of the whole family. When my parents arrived from MA she was attentive and made let them ask questions. Knowing Lauren was part of my grandmother’s care team made it so I could get some rest at night. It was comforting knowing Lauren was caring for my grandmother exactly how I would if I were her nurse. We cannot say thank you enough for the care and compassion Lauren showed our mom/Mem/Grandma and family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
