Our family is truly thankful to have Lena Hallett as one of our daughter's NICU nurses. My daughter was born at 29 weeks & 5 days with a Teratoma on her tailbone. When she was born, all the NICU nurses were amazing, making sure she was comfortable and thriving to get stronger as they prepared for her surgery. For 50 days, my baby girl was in the NICU, and most of those days after her surgery, Nurse Lena was her Day Nurse. Lena always went out her way to make sure our daughter was getting the best care she needed. Lena's wonderful spirit helped me feel comfortable and more open to having conversations with her. Being at a hospital all day, alone and there's nothing you can do to help your premature baby who is hooked up to lot of things can be scary and overwhelming but she eased those feelings away. She answered all our older kids' questions they had about their baby sister, the equipment in the room, and other random stuff, which helped them feel comfortable being there as well. Lena was very helpful with keeping me and dad in the loop of our daughter's care, and if something happened, she was always there to advocate for us and then explain to us what was going on in terms we understood. We are truly thankful for everything Lena did to help our daughter become stronger and come home. We were sad she wasn't there to see us off on our big day to go home, but she helps prepared us for everything that was going to be explained to us and what we, as parents, needed to know to care for a preemie.
