I am delighted to recommend Leslie Falk for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to nursing education. As her colleague, I have had the privilege of observing Dr. Falk’s extraordinary dedication to teaching, commitment to compassionate care, and positive impact on students and their learning experience. The specific situation that prompted this nomination occurred last weekend when she spent so many hours grading an assignment. We might think, oh that is normal. But let me put it into context. She was on vacation and she spent 20 hours of her weekend providing feedback so the students would get their assignments back within 6 days of submitting it. And this is not the first time. She consistently prioritizes the needs of students and their learning journey. She provides so much detail on assignments that students actually read the feedback and respond to it. As we all know some feedback from instructors goes into the ether, especially on stand alone assignments. Leslie’s feedback is more like an ongoing conversation between herself and the students. The students engage with the feedback and as the co-instructor I have seen a dramatic improvement in their submitted work.

And what makes this nomination even more fun, is she doesn’t realize the impact she has and what a pleasure she is to work with. Dr. Falk is the embodiment of excellence in nursing education. She engages students with a contagious passion for the nursing profession and is deeply committed to creating a learning environment that upholds high standards while providing compassionate support. Her innovative teaching approach, combined with her in-depth knowledge of practical nursing, equips students to develop both the technical skills and empathy crucial for high-quality patient care. Drawing from her background as a nurse informaticist, Dr. Falk enriches her teaching with real-world insights that bring the material to life. She also provides thorough, constructive feedback that helps students reflect on and learn from their mistakes, responding to their questions with patience and understanding.

As her co-instructor in NURS 636, I have had the honor of working alongside her to revise and deliver this course. Dr. Falk is genuinely collaborative, resourceful, and wholeheartedly dedicated to student success at a level that is truly inspiring. Leslie goes above and beyond to support students both academically and personally. Whether a student requires additional guidance on an assignment or encouragement during challenging times, Leslie is always available, demonstrating empathy and understanding that inspires confidence and resilience in our future nurses.

For these reasons and many more, I can think of no one more deserving of the DAISY Award than Leslie Falk. Her commitment to nursing education and compassionate care has set a remarkable standard at Boise State, and I am honored to support her nomination. I am confident that she will continue to impact countless students and patients, leaving a legacy of excellence that reflects the very best of our profession.
