Steve gave my son exceptional care even when he was screaming in his face!
We came to the ED for my son who had gotten a piece of wood jammed under his thumbnail during a class. My son is terrified of needles and hospitals in general so he was already upset and dreading what was going to happen. Steve was the nurse in the ED that day, and from the beginning, Steve was patient with him and spoke to him in a comforting manner. When it came time to numb his hand, he began crying and fighting to try to stop the needles. While we did have to hold him down to have his finger numbed and also had to hold him down to remove the splinter, Steve remained patient yet firm when needed to make sure that my son stayed still and Dr. Rexrode was able to get the wood out. While everyone in the ED was very caring that day, Steve went above and beyond to soothe an upset boy who was screaming and fighting against them the entire time. Even though the ED was full that day and I’m sure that the screaming and crying made it difficult for everyone (patients and staff), Steve never acted like it was a problem or that my son needed to be quiet. Steve gave my son exceptional care even when he was screaming in his face! We were very fortunate to have had Steve as the nurse that was working that day, and we are very grateful for the care and patience that Steve showed to my son.
