We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the ICU nurses and staff for their wonderful care of our son. He will forever be known as the miracle in ICU. Without your support, we would not have made it to this point. Our son has regained almost all of his health, with the exception of some vision issues. We hope in time this too will be returned to normal. Your staff was beyond a doubt the most caring and supportive people that we have interacted with at any hospital. The first three days were a nightmare for all of us. We had lost hope in our son's recovery and each nurse that walked in that room kept telling us to keep praying, take it one day at a time and never give up. We were told over and over to remember that he is young and his brain can do amazing things.
Your nurses held us when we cried, listened to our stories, laughed when we laughed and just spent time with us through the entire process. They never pushed our friends and family away, even though there were A LOT of people visiting. And once the miracle happened and our son began responding, we had every nurse in that ICU coming in to see it for themselves. We felt the genuine care and concern from your staff and we so appreciated every one of them.
We want to give a special thanks to Levi Dutton. He went above and beyond his calling as a nurse He was with our son the first night he arrived and followed us through the journey. He made sure we never gave up on him. He kept him comfortable through his pain, made sure his hair looked nice, explained to us all about the gagging reflex and how our son's was so strong. He always reinforced to us that he wasn't in pain.
When our son woke up, Levi called in from home and insisted he talk to my husband to make sure what they were telling him was true. He came back to work and was amazed at my son's progress.
Once moved to acute care, Levi made every effort to continue to visit our son, counselling him on his future, helping him to see his full potential. Our son considers him to be a very good friend who has been there since day one. Levi went above and beyond his call of duty and has made an everlasting impression in our lives.
