The charge nurse was told a special story from a patient. The patient was readmitted approximately 5 days later and she repeated this same WOW story to me when I was doing patient rounding. She said that Libby was an angel!
The patient told me a story that I wanted to share because it was so special to this patient and is a WOW moment. During the patient stay here, her nephew passed away and because she was still very sick and short of breath, the doctor did not feel it was safe to send her home or to the funeral. The patient really wanted to be there but knew deep down she was too sick. Being torn emotionally, she was very upset.
The story as told to the Charge Nurse by the patient was this:
Libby stayed with me all night. She listened to me and cried with me and she only left my side to go check on her other patients and perform the care they needed. But she would always come back around to me and sit in the chair and comfort me. Libby took all her extra time with me. Not only did I appreciate her, I honestly don’t know how I would have ever made it through the night without her. I feel without her, I would have probably died because when I cried uncontrollably before she got here, I couldn’t breathe at all and felt like I was surely going to die. Libby was a God send. I could never thank her enough for that night!
