My mother was transported to the Richland ER; her hemoglobin was extremely low and her blood pressure was dropping rapidly. It's very hard to watch your Mom fail so fast. There was no room in the ICU so she was held in one of the overflow ER ICU rooms. Linda Dabney, RN, was assigned to her. She stayed with her while she received 4 units of blood. Linda had a very confident, competent, and comforting disposition. She took wonderful care of my Mom, who is 84. She treated her respectfully.
My sister and I stayed in the room, nodding off sitting in those hard chairs. Linda came by to check Mom's vital signs and said, "Oh no, we can do much better than this." She left and returned with a cot, pillows, linens, and blankets for the two of us. Linda looked after Mom and after us.
Our second night in the ER, Linda was assigned outside of the red zone. However, she stopped by before and after her shift to let us know that she was monitoring Mom's progress and to see if there was anything she could do to make our stay more comfortable.
Her actions exhibited passion for her work, and compassion for the patient and patient's family. Linda provided immense support and went above and beyond to put us at ease during a very anxious time. I feel we were able to establish a special connection with her due to her empathy, compassion, and caring. She is an exceptional nurse and is deserving of this award. She sets the bar for nurses and represents Richland well - a true asset to your organization.
