As a mother, my heart was shattered into pieces knowing my son was dying, but with every action that Lindsey completed, the more she also helped to restore my peace.
Lindsey played an incredible and healing role in our journey at the Hospital after my son had cardiac arrest. On his first day he had to have glue in his hair from his testing. When the test concluded, Lindsey helped to diligently comb the glue from his hair. The delicate care she took on a task so simple really healed a part in me as his mother. Every day, Lindsey made sure he would have a bath. It is valid and normal to see a nurse take care of her desk duties and sit in their perspective work areas, but I don't remember a time when Lindsey wasn't in our room taking care of J, myself, or his dad. Lindsey also asked everyday if I needed anything and I would always tell her no, but every day she would bring me a cup of graham crackers and peanut butter along with a cup of ice to remind me to eat and hydrate.

Lindsey, on the day I witnessed my son transition spiritually to heaven sat by the room to ensure I wasn't alone, but one thing I feel as J’s mother was that he went to Heaven happy and healed because of the work Lindsey did. I think he knew that although physically he would still be present in the room, I would have our nurse Lindsey to continue to heal me. Lindsey's choosing to pick up additional days to care for J must have been a confirmation. Lindsey will always feel like an angel to our family, and in J's transition to heaven, I know he left a little sprinkle of magic for her. Lindsey is selfless in her work and you can truly feel that she loves what she has chosen to do. She will always be my son’s Horton.

As a mother, my heart was shattered into pieces knowing my son was dying, but with every action that Lindsey completed, the more she also helped to restore my peace. I hope Lindsey knows we will carry her in our hearts for the incredible and loving work she has done in my son’s final days.
