My daughter was hospitalized three times at Gettysburg Hospital over a period of five weeks. Lisa was the assigned nurse for my daughter on several occasions during two of those hospitalizations. Lisa is a nurse on A2. All the staff we encountered on A2 were wonderful! The care my daughter received from everyone was terrific. However, we want to recognize that the care Lisa provided to her was exceptional! My daughter was very sick, and Lisa worked hard to make sure that she received the care and attention she needed. Her comfort was a top priority for Lisa. She took the time to listen to our concerns. We made Lisa aware that our daughter had difficulty swallowing pills, so she advocated to get medications dispensed in liquid form. Some of the IV medications caused discomfort when they were infusing. Lisa worked to ease that discomfort. Sometimes all those things meant multiple calls to the pharmacy or the physician which she did readily. She always took the time to explain to my daughter what each treatment or medication was and how it would be administered. She consistently told us how long an IV medication would take to infuse and when she would be back to check on her. She frequently helped to turn and reposition our daughter or assisted her with personal care. She never, ever left the room without asking if there was something else she or I needed. I do not think I ever saw her sitting down during her entire shift. She stayed late and worked extra on several occasions. We would often overhear her offering to help another coworker with something they needed. I never saw her without a smile on her face. Additionally, Lisa shared all that she learned about our daughter's care needs and preferences with the nurse for the next shift. We so appreciated everything that she did for our daughter during her hospitalization. I also have the privilege of working with Lisa as a Gettysburg Hospital employee, so I know that she provides this level of care to ALL her patients. She goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care each day to every patient. She truly is extraordinary and a DAISY Nurse.
