Although I am currently an employee here at Jefferson for the past year, I had surgery here 2 years ago and had Lisa as my primary RN. Considering that I have worked as a medical social worker for 30+ years, I am very cognizant of infection and the need for good universal precautions. That being said, I think Lisa was exceptional in ensuring that she used good hand washing because I had small surgical sites and it was obvious that these practices were just second nature to her. The kindness with which she cared for me and concern to check on me frequently for any needs was unmatched. She was so sweet with my family and visitors and definitely "nursed" my whole situation.
Fast forward to working with Lisa as a co-worker. I sit in morning huddle every day and, of all the units I cover and RNs whom I listen to, none compare to Lisa. Not only is she proficient in her knowledge of every patient down to each detail of what they have going on, but she also knows all of the demographics and social issues that may impact care, placement, family, etc. Her compassion runs so deep that is almost difficult to explain. Being here many years as an RN, everyone knows that many RNs burnout. Not Lisa! I watch her every day and her "empathy" knows no end for her patients or her co-workers. She is constantly dropping her own things to assist her co-workers when they are struggling. She is an amazing mentor for new nurses, other staff and when I see that she is working, it just makes everything about the day better!
