She has always made it a positive experience for the patients and staff. Even when patients were inconvenienced and had to stay in PACU, she, along with the PACU staff, made their stay the most positive and comfortable encounter they could experience.
Lisa recently took on the coordinator role in PACU, which has made the unit a great place to work! She is always very caring and compassionate to her staff and patients. She went from being a casual employee to a full time charge nurse when COVID, staff shortages, room shortages, and an increase in surgery cases made it a challenge. Her leadership skills, perseverance, and determination helped PACU conquer these challenges. Even when the PACU had to do things a PACU never does. She led the PACU staff through staying open all night to care for floor patients that had nowhere to go because of multiple shortage problems. She guided PACU when they started holding patients up to 10 hours a day due to shortages of places for surgery patients to go. She quickly learned and helped PACU become knowledgeable with surgery cases they had never before cared for due to shortages. Her staff worked 12 hour shifts, did night calls, stayed open all night and worked the next day. Lisa would figure out ways to make it work. She always had a plan. She took the brunt of complaints with a smile. Through all these obstacles Lisa has always been tenacious, optimistic, and sometimes downright annoyingly cheerful! But her staff loves her! She has always made it a positive experience for the patients and staff. Even when patients were inconvenienced and had to stay in PACU, she, along with the PACU staff, made their stay the most positive and comfortable encounter they could experience. Lisa deserves this award because, as a leader in the worst of times, she came out on top for her staff and patients!
