Lissa is the stat nurse on 4-MS. In that role, she has the opportunity to become familiar and form relationships with all the patients and staff on 4-MS. I would like to recognize the care she delivered to one particular patient. This patient was in and out of the hospital a lot, his family support was minimal to nonexistent, and he was in the hospital for an extended stay of almost 2 months. Lissa recognized this patient's behavior and took action to help make his days and nights more structured. So that he'd have nap time and bedtime and more of a home-like routine. Once these routines were established this little one adjusted quite well and had fewer tantrums. She demonstrated exceptional care with this patient but she also is very active in her role to help expedite discharges. She is proactive in helping residents get orders entered, helps fine-tune the instructions to be clear and accurate, assists Nursing Case Management in scheduling follow up appointments or calling pharmacies to ensure medication will be available, doing discharge teaching and anything that is asked of her. With her knowledge and expertise, she is a wonderful resource for her coworkers.
