I am extending a previous nomination for Lola by adding an example of her clinical excellence. Lola is a prime candidate for this award. She has been a part of the Hurley family for quite some time. Lola goes above and beyond her expectations as a nurse in providing family centered care. With one little boy who was a long term patient(fell off the back of pickup truck, was here for extended period of time with vp shunt and then ventric drain) she would stop and bring him McDonald''s on her way into work each night and she would hold him on her lap or sit with him in his room while the family was away. She helped in his rehabilitation from working on words all the way to walking. She provided comfort to the family in knowing their little boy was being treated like one of Lola’s own. When patient’s are here for extended periods of time the family’s life outside of the hospital does not stop. There comes a time when parents have to leave the hospital or have other children to take care of and there is not always someone to stay with their child. Forming a relationship with the family and gaining there trust makes a world of difference when they must make the decision to leave their child. Lola provides this peace of mind to many families. This is just one of the numerous examples of how she shows she truly loves her job and the children she helps care for.
