Loraine has been working at Saddleback since 1985, serving over 35 years. I have been working with this amazing leader since 2015, first in the Observation Unit and then in the Acute Medical Unit since 2019. Because of her extraordinary leadership, we respect and love her well. She became the Covid expert and led the team strong and resiliently during the Covid surge and in many other difficult times. 3 East was a designated Covid unit for over 2 years, during which time we accumulated much knowledge and hands-on experience in providing the best patient and family-centered care. In the beginning, when everyone was in the uncertain stage, Loraine prepared our unit. People called her in the middle of the night asking for PPE, and she sometimes came in at night to make sure we had everything we needed. She's creative and always comes up with brilliant cost-saving ideas. She encourages us and rewards us for also providing good recommendations. Dealing with difficult patients and family members became a big part of our daily lives during the Covid surge. Calls constantly were pouring in, and people blamed us for not being able to give them updates right away. Loraine made a standard of answering calls and helping ease anxieties on both sides while trying not to interrupt care. She carefully followed up on all risk issues and communicated well with all supervisors, asking for assistance from ancillary departments. She guided and coached us on how to deal with challenging situations. Loraine manages two units and over a hundred employees. Because of her leadership, Covid was no longer a big deal to us. Most nurses stayed on 3 East because we knew our leader was always there for us, no matter what. Loraine is a great coach for projects and a leader who builds us up for professional development. We’re seeing more DAISY Nurses, Sunflower honorees, and APPlS nurses on 3 East!

Loraine is a true leader whom we love and respect, look upon, and love to follow! We feel so blessed to be working with her!
