I had surgery at the Gainesville VA hospital. I guess my procedure went a little longer than expected (10 hours). So I was sent to the SICU for a period of time to be sure all was okay. Loretta Carson was my assigned nurse in SICU. As I started my recovery in this unit, she was truly focused on my care. Her constant presence was very reassuring as I continued to "wake up." She was very calming in all her communication. Loretta made my time in SICU so encouraging that I did not want to leave. (How many patients say that in a hospital?) I hope you have her mentoring and training new nurses in the VA. I could tell that Loretta Carson was driven by her heart in her efforts!
